Channel 4 commissions Boomerang to produce bumper run of Extreme Cake Makers

Channel 4 has commissioned a second 30 x 30’ series of Boomerang’s daytime brand, Extreme Cake Makers.

The series lifts the lid on the successes and failures of a crazy, creative and elite group who go all out to produce the world’s most delicious and breathtaking creations, turning cakes into works of art. It was Channel 4’s best brand new launch in the weekday 5pm slot since 2012 and performed particularly strongly with 16-34’s with a 12.2% share.

The last series saw some extreme creations: from a life size Shetland pony, to a 4ft replica of the Statue of Liberty, a lifesize ballgown with edible peacock feathers, to a 5ft edible Wizard of Oz mural.

Matt Pritchard, Managing Director, Boomerang, said: “After a successful first series of Extreme Cake Makers, we are really pleased to be given the opportunity to build this returnable daytime brand from our Cardiff production base. We’re looking forward to slicing further into the eccentric world of elaborate cake making.”

David Sayer, Head of Daytime, Channel 4, said: “Viewers proved to have a great appetite for this winning recipe of spectacular and delicious cakes and so we are delighted to commission a further series as part of daytime’s continuing drive to increase its output from the nations and regions.”

The series is commissioned by David Sayer for Channel 4. The Executive Producer is Sam Grace.
